Pondicherry - A Trip Amidst Winter !

It was the time of winter and almost the end of december last year when me and my colleague decided to visit pondicherry. We were both in bangalore back then and with the new-year approaching, we decided to catch an overnight bus from Majestic which we had pre-booked via Redbus. We arrived close by to the Rock Beach at around 4 a.m. and walked down to Le-Cafe where we enjoyed the sunrise with expensive coffee and food.

We managed to spot nice graffiti's on the wall while we strolled down the road with the nice fresh cold air brushing against us.

As more and more sunlight started creeping in, Rock beach started looking more and more mesmerizing with the entire road having well decorated and painted buildings on one side with the ever extending beach on the other.

As we walked through the area more and more, we discovered many cafes and nicely painted buildings and walls which really added to the overall fresh and radiant atmosphere of the place. Since it was too early in the morning, most of the cafes were closed and hence we just marked them in our list so that we would come back and check them out later in the day.

With all this strolling around we got really tired and hence decided to take some rest after which we then resumed our tour of the place with partly cabs but mostly through walking. The first place on our list was the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. A really serene atmosphere welcomed us once we entered the place and the architecture inside was mind-blowing.

All this walking made us extremely hungry and so we decided to try out the various options of cafes which were available to us. Pizza and drinks at Cafe Xtasi followed by dessert at Cafe Zuka - It was really amazing indeed.

The wide variety of desserts available were really amazing

After this we relaxed at the beach for sometime and then decided that since we had come so far, we should also check out Auroville which was really just an auto ride away. It is kind of a isolated town where foreigners come from far away to meditate.

Finally we decided to have lunch in the nearby Dreamer's cafe. I must say the best thing about Pondicherry is it's wide range of cafes and the really relaxed atmosphere.

Finally with all these we managed to cover most of what we expected to see in Pondicherry and after this we decided to move on to Mahabalipuram for which we boarded a bus from the Pondicherry bus station. I will cover Mahabalipuram in a separate post.
