Chili's - The American Grill & Bar

It has been a long time since I have been back to Kolkata. With the pandemic slowly receeding, and a bit of normalcy coming back to our everyday lives, i decided that this was the perfect time to treat myself to a bit of good food and some hot sumptous desserts. While the general cuisine around Kolkata is more geared towards Biriyani's and Kebabs, I had planned out for something a bit different and hence I headed out to the one and only outlet of Chili's situated within the Quest Mall at Ballygunge in Kolkata.

Within the vast expanse of area that Quest Mall covers, Chili's is located on the fifth floor right near the movie theatres and the food courts. While from the outside, it looks like the quintessential all-american diner, the experience within the premises was quite different. It was me and my friends who had headed out together on the occasion of one of them making it to Goldman Sachs as a recent job change and hence we decided that we were going to mark the occassion not only with good food but also some top of the shelf booze and frankly we were not disappointed with what Chili's had to offer. We took a table right by the all glass-pane overlooking the nice glaze of the city road and soon the ambience really began to set-in. To begin with we started off with the customary budweiser to get our appetite going and to our great surpirise, Chili's had a very nice Durga-Puja offer of 3 paid + 1 free bottle going on. So we decided to settle for that and ordered some really nice starters from the menu which included the boneless Texas Spicy Wings and the Honey Chipotle Crispers with a set of fries on the side. We were also provided with a nice dollop of mustard sauce on the house.

The Texas Spicy Wings were really hot and spicy adding a well crafted layour of flavour which went well with our Budweisers. It was really well prepared with the quality and taste both acing my expectations. Overall, the dish set us back by 415 INR which to me was very well priced compared to its taste and quantity.

The Honey Chipotle Crispers were off the charts. If you are someone who is visting Chili's for the first time, I would definitely recommend getting this one. The overall tangy taste coupled with the extremely nice presentation makes this one a definite try out on my list and for a price of 495 INR, this one rocks!

Next on our wish list, was the intention of trying out the main course meals which could provide us something different from the regular chicken which we were having. So we went ahead and ordered the Baby Back Ribs (Pork Ribs) and the Boss Burger (Lamb variant)

The Baby Back Ribs was exceptional. The barbeque sauce provided it with a really nice zing and the pork was very well cooked and tender. It would just melt in our mouths. It also came with fries on the side along with some salad. In terms of quantity the pork ribs packed quite a punch. Although we had ordered only the half version but as you can see from the shot above, even that had a high volume of meat with it. This offering set us back by 995 INR.

The next item on the list was the Boss Burger which was essentially a Lamb Burger, outrageous in size and shamelessly loaded with bacon, cheese and all different kinds of spreads and mayonaisse. Look at the picture below and soon you will realize that we three were filled up-to the brim after devouring this beast.

The Boss Burger set us back by around 695 INR but it was definitely worth the price. Well, with all of this food, I know what you guys must be thinking, that this should probably be the end of our hunger grab. But sadly, you dont know us that well enough. We were just getting started. So we went ahead and ordered more food because you know good food means a good and happy life!

The Triple Dipper Non-Veg was another dish which we really enjoyed. Our version had a combination of three separate variants - Barbeque Wings, Egg Rolls and Country Fried Crispers. With a price tag of 455 INR, this one was a stellar deal!

Next we decided to order some more beer. This time we decided to try out Hoegaarden and to our surprise it was really different from the traditional beers which we had been accustomed to. The tangy taste coupled with a zesty flavour really drove home the spirit of a light beverage with relatively lesser buzz.

Finally we decided to call it quits. But before we did that there was one last section of the menu which we needed to try out and yes you guessed it right, I am talking about the desserts section. Our food journey would be incomplete without the famous Molten Chocolate Mousse Cake and also a Cheese Cake for my friends. These set us back by 345 INR and 295 INR respectively.

This brings me to the end of my food journey with Chili's. Hope you guys enjoyed reading my blog post. If you are looking for a weekend place to grab some nice lunch with your family or your friends, I would definitely recommend you check this place out once. You will not regret it. Coupled with service tax, this joint is a bit towards the costlier spectrum of the restaurant offerings in kolkata. But they do tend to provide an excellent service and really high quality food which kind of makes up for the premium in pricing.
